Overview

The Angus is a portable battery-powered dry herb vaporizer made by YLLVAPE, sold in the United States through VGOODIEZ. It uses a halogen bulb heating element inside a glass chamber, giving it a heating profile that is convection-dominant with a radiant heat contribution from the bulb. Released around late 2022, it quickly drew comparisons to the Storz & Bickel Mighty due to its similar role as a portable session vaporizer.

The Angus uses two swappable 18650 batteries and features a simple LED-based interface. The heater is rated up to approximately 70W — significantly more powerful than the Mighty’s 41W. Heat-up time to maximum temperature is approximately 1 minute (vs ~2 minutes for the Mighty).

Community Reception

FC members who owned both the Mighty and the Angus were nearly unanimous in preferring the Angus for vapor quality. The halogen heating was credited with significantly better flavor preservation across a full session, including at high temperatures where conduction-leaning devices typically degrade.

Members with extensive collections — including FW7, Mighty, Bowle, v3 Pro, B2, Halo, Anvil, Vapman, and Herborizer — described the Angus as a “statement vape” that punches well above its price. The replaceable 18650 battery design was seen as a decisive advantage in 2022 over the Mighty’s sealed pack.

Angus vs. Storz & Bickel Mighty

This was the primary focus of FC discussion when the Angus launched:

  • Vapor quality: Angus superior at both low and high temps; Mighty vapor described as "flimsy" by comparison
  • Heat retention: Angus considerably better — enables hard rips at high temps without flavor degradation
  • Heat-up time: Angus ~1 min vs. Mighty ~2 min
  • Heater power: Angus ~70W vs. Mighty 41W
  • Batteries: Angus uses swappable 18650s; Mighty has a sealed internal pack — community strongly preferred the Angus approach
  • Ease of use: Nearly identical — both simple to load (doob tube, dump ABV, refill, go)
  • Draw style: Mighty is more passive (conduction does the work, vapor pours out); Angus requires active inhaling to generate vapor
  • Durability: Mighty (plastic) considered more forgiving of drops; Angus passed a public 4-foot drop test twice without bulb failure
  • Maintenance: Angus simpler — no O-ring stack like the Mighty cooling unit requires
  • Price: Angus significantly undercuts the Mighty for superior performance by community consensus

Tips & Techniques

  • Loading: Works with doob tubes just like the Mighty. Handles both tight and loose packs without issues.
  • Draw style: Supports slow sipping or hard rips. At lower temps use slow steady draws; at higher temps faster draws prevent over-extraction.
  • High-temp use: Where the Angus shines — halogen preserves flavor at temperatures where other vapes go harsh. Ideal for “ripping.”
  • Temp stepping: Possible within preset steps. The Mighty and TinyMight offer finer granularity, but the Angus compensates with better flavor longevity per step.
  • End-of-session draws: Slower draws toward the end extract remaining material more efficiently — similar effect to bumping temperature.
  • Vent modulation: Feathering a finger over the intake vent at the bottom modulates airflow and hit intensity (same technique works on the XMAX v3 Pro).
  • WPA accessories: The threaded WPA base opens up compatibility with threaded mouthpiece accessories. The magnetic mouthpiece design is also 3D-print-friendly for custom options.
  • 18650 selection: Higher-capacity cells deliver more sessions. Community reported ~9 sessions; VapeFiend.com reported fewer, suggesting draw style and session length affect battery life significantly.

Angus vs. TinyMight 2

Members who owned both devices found different use cases for each:

  • TinyMight 2 preferred for relaxed couch sessions — on-demand, full-dial temp control, no urgency to finish the bowl
  • Angus preferred for mobile use (walking, outdoors) — session format suits activities where you want to finish a bowl and move on
  • TM2 has finer temp stepping (full dial vs. Angus presets), but Angus halogen heating means flavor lasts longer per step
  • Both considered superior to the Mighty by owners of all three

Durability

The halogen bulb is the component most likely to raise durability concerns. However, VGOODIEZ performed a public drop test from 4 feet — twice — with no bulb failure. The glass mouthpiece is removable and the unit is straightforward to disassemble for cleaning. Maintenance is simpler than the Mighty’s cooling unit, which requires managing multiple O-rings.
